Summer Music Opportunities (5/27/07)
We would
like to establish a resource for playing and/or educational
opportunites for the summber months. Please let us know if you have
any suggestions and we will post a page devoted to them.
Here's
a start:
There will be a three day Suzuki Strings Camp in Chelsea, VT
June 26-28.
The Green Mountain Music Camp, located at
Southern Vermont College, welcomes musicians of all ages on July 23
through 29 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Now in its 17th year, the camp offers
band, orchestra, jazz band, musical theater, percussion, chorus, chamber
choirs, handbells chamber music and more. For information, contact Director

Auditions Scheduled (4/23/07)
Auditions for next season (Fall 2007) will be held on Friday,
June 1, 2007 at the Rutland Intermediate School starting at
3:30 PM. If you know of anyone interested in auditioning, our contact
number is 802-773-4689. Auditions are not mandatory for current LRYO students, with the exception of those who would like to move up a group. If you are interested in changing groups, please call Laura at above number to schedule an audition slot.

Family Foundation Solo Competition Winner Announced (3/3/07)
Congratulations
to Jay Sager, winner of the Anton Family Foundation
Solo Competition. Jay will be our soloist, performing with the orchestra
at our concert at the Paramount Theatre in April. Thanks to all
musicians who auditioned last month!

There is rehearsal on 2/16; there is no rehearsal on 2/23.
Anton Family Foundation Solo Competition update! (1/14/07)
The competition will take place on Friday, February 9th during regular
rehearsal time (4:00 - 7:00 p.m.) in the Fine Arts Center. Please sign
up with Laura Steere by phone (802-773-4689) or email (info@lryo.org) by Friday, January 26th, providing
your name, instrument, title of piece, composer and length of piece.
$1,000 Prize
for winner of Lakes Region Youth Orchestra Solo Competition! (12/15/06)
Castleton, VT- Lakes Region Youth Orchestra, through a generous grant
from the Anton Family Foundation, is offering a $1,000 prize for
furthering musical study to the winner
of its Solo Competition, which will be held in the spring of 2007. All participants
in the competition must be Lakes Region Youth Orchestra members in good
standing for the Spring 2007 semester.
The students will be competing, not only for the monetary reward, but also for the prestige of playing a solo with the orchestra for their Spring Gala Concert at the Paramount Theatre on April 29, 2007.
Located in Castleton and Rutland, Vermont, the Lakes Region Youth Orchestra provides an orchestral program for the youth of west central Vermont and east central New York. The Lakes Region Youth Orchestra has seven music ensembles to serve musical abilities ranging from mid elementary to senior high school musicians.

Anniversary Celebration at The Chaffee Art Center!
T-shirts now available: (10/08/06)
Our new LRYO T-shirts are now available. To make them readily available to
all of our musicians, the Board has chosen to subsidize the price for members -
only $4.00 each. Friends of LRYO can also buy shirts for only $10.00. We'll
have them available at CSC rehearsals as well as at LRYO performances, or call
Laura at 773-4689 to order yours.

Auditions for Orchestra and New Members:
We will hold additional auditions on our first rehearsal day, Friday,
September 8 at Castleton for new students and those who would like to
be considered for a higher level group. New students: Please
feel free to visit for the afternoon and observe or play with us.
If you would like to schedule an audition for that afternoon,

Let your musician friends know about this date so that they can join us right away in the Fall. Full instrumentation for all groups allows conductors to program a wider range of sophisticated literature, so please get the word out! We are especially seeking to increase registration in Concert Band and have open seats for trumpets, horns, bass clarinet and tuba in the Wind Ensemble and Senior Orchestra.
The Fall 2006 Season Begins:
Our season will kick off with rehearsals in the Fine Arts Center at Castleton State College at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2006. (Repertory Strings will meet in Room 108 at the Rutland Intermediate School at 3:30 pm on the 8th.) The following day we will enjoy our day of rehearsal and activities at Kinhaven in Weston. Looking ahead, our Winter Concert will be held in the Castleton State College Fine Arts Center at 7:00 pm on Saturday, December 16. Our Spring Concert will be at the beautiful Paramount Theatre at 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 29, 2007.
